An unusual snow storm on October 12th dumped a thick and heavy blanket on trees not yet ready for winter. Large white flakes dropped from the sky and the periodic flash of lightning and clap of thunder accompanied the constant crack of tree limbs breaking off under the heavy load.
By morning, Buffalo and the surrounding suburbs remained dark due to the massive damage to power lines. "Toughing it out" with a new baby, the Merwin clan cozied up to their wood fire. Word came Sunday, however, that the power would remain out for the neighborhood for another week.
"Oh, and by the way, you may want to boil the water."
Sunday evening found the Merwins packed and heading to Canada to stay for the week with Uncle Todd, Aunt Jenn, and Cousins Kayla and Ben.
Power was restored late the 20th and the Merwins returned home after a very fun extended visit with family. Abigail had survived her very first Federally Declared "Emergency".
